Youngest Majolica Dealer - Baltimore Summer Antique Show

Hi Majolica International Society,

We have returned to Ireland, from the Baltimore Summer Antique Show despite many flight and train cancellations.

Our daughters, Maeve & Lizzie helped Martine and I for the first time at a show. We all had a ball.

Earthquakes and hurricanes didn’t put off the youngest Majolica dealers on the block and although Baltimore was in lock down, the collectors who got to the show made the show successful.

Lot No. 80: Minton Majolica Prometheus Bound Vase and Cover, England, 19th century, designed by Victor Etienne Simyan.
Polychrome enamel decorated, the cover modeled with a eagle attacking a chain bound scantily draped male figure, the vase with bearded male figures chained to either side of scrolled handles adorned with helmet and shields, no visible factory mark, overall ht. 48 1/2 in.
Estimate:$5,000-7,000

Happy Birthday Majolica - 160 Years

Can you believe that Google decided to recognize the 160 Birthday of the "World's Fair" with the great Google graphic below?

May 1, 2011, was the 160th Anniversary of the “World’s Fair”; or specifically The Great Exhibition of 1851, in Hyde Park, London.

Victorian Majolica was introduced to the world at the Great Exhibition 1851 by Herbert Minton, of Stoke-on-Trent, England.

A world's fair is a gathering of people from many parts of ...the world, at which they demonstrate their products and their arts, and promote their homelands. The modern string of world's fairs began in the middle of the nineteenth century, when the industrial revolution was unfolding.

The poet Tennyson referred to the Great Exhibition of 1851 as "the world's great fair," and the exhibition was popularly and widely referred to as "the world's fair." Since then every such event has been similarly described.
